What People SayMore PicturesIntroduction

Bloor West village: Ukrainian Festival: August 26,27 & 28, 2005

THIS Year: This three-day event takes place on August 26,27 & 28, 2005. This is the Festival's 9th year (it began in 1997) and each time it comes around it continues to get better.

Previous Years   [Review from 2002]
The festival began on Thursday, August 17th with a "Golf Day" held at the Streetsville Glen Golf Club and was followed with a beautiful dinner at Zsa-Zsa's restaurant located in the heart of Bloor West Village. On Friday, roughly around 7 pm, people from all around began gathering at the corner of Runnymede and Bloor for the Pre-Festival Bash.

On Saturday, August 18th the festival began with a colorful parade with close to 1000 participants including Provincial and Municipal politicians, marching bands, dance groups, choirs, and youth organizations. This year's parade host was Victor Malarek from the CBC's Fifth Estate.

Throughout the remaining of Saturday and all of Sunday, there were all day performances featuring various Ukrainian, Canadian and US. artists, singers, dancers, comedians, choirs and brand name acts from the Ukraine. Many people were able to browse through the many kiosks featuring Ukrainian cuisine, souvenirs, and information booths.

The greatest thing about the Ukrainian Festival was the opportunity for kids to have fun. From Runnymede to Jane, the Bloor Street was lined with children play areas. Here kids had the opportunity to get their face painted, travel through the petting zoo, play games and many other activities.
